Launch Party — Recap

Noware Presents: PUFF Launch Party

On Saturday, May 16, hardware design studio Noware launched PUFF — a wearable USB flash drive with a hidden OLED display that reacts as you use it — with an in-person event at Index Chinatown during NYCxDESIGN Festival.

The Launch

The event marked Noware's first in-person launch and the public debut of PUFF after a year of building the brand online through social media. Roughly 500 guests came through over the course of the evening for product demos, drinks, and a DJ set that ran into the night.

PUFF was on display in its full range of gem-inspired colors alongside lollipops by BUSS and pre-rolls by FLAMER. The collaboration came from three objects with more in common than they look — a USB drive, a lollipop, and a pre-roll. Each is something most people don't bother designing with intent, and each brand starts there. BUSS's spiky lollipop geometry rhymes with PUFF's pointed puffy form, and BUSS's own origin — its founder handed out lollipops to get to the front of a DJ set — lined up neatly with PUFF's early audience of DJs looking for more expressive tools. FLAMER carries that same instinct into a category that almost never receives it: their bright red pre-rolls are a deliberate piece of design, the color itself a nod to queer signaling history. The brand is rooted in NYC's queer nightlife community. To tie the three together, Noware also designed a custom joint holder for the night, wearable as a bag charm and built as a tool to elevate the smoking experience. All three brands are majority queer-owned, with overlapping roots across NYC and Miami's design and queer creative communities.

Guests could browse generative animations and games on tablets, with their selections rendering live on the PUFF devices around the room. The night was hosted by garden3d at Index Chinatown, with lollipops by BUSS, joints by FLAMER, and a DJ set by Devin Kasparian.
